Buttermilk
For many years, Buttermilk was the least publicized of Aspen's mountains, but it's long been number one in the hearts of families. And thanks to its role as host of ESPN's Winter X Games, Buttermilk is no longer known as just a great learning playground. Alongside perfectly groomed slopes are three terrain parks with over 40 hits and jumps, enough to keep the X Games here until 2007.

| BRECKENRIDGE |
 |
 |
Breckenridge
Breckenridge is a bona fide Western ski town, with roots dating to 1859 and 350 historic structures. And with more than 100 restaurants, 250 shops, and 30 bars and clubs, it's anything but sleepy. The action on Main Street is matched only by the adventure of the four mountain peaks above it. A third of Breck's terrain is made up of above-treeline bowls. But kids and novices shouldn't be scared off. With 2,200 acres of total terrain, that still leaves more than 1,400 acres to explore.

Steamboat's Champagne Powder® blankets five peaks, including the gladed terrain of Pioneer Ridge. The town of Steamboat Springs offers nighttime distraction to the tune of 70 bars and restaurants. Beaver Creek
Known for its luxurious accommodations and top-notch amenities such as heated walkways and a covered escalator that transports you to the lifts, Beaver Creek also has serious terrain to back up those bells and whistles. The expert runs of Grouse Mountain and the Birds of Prey Downhill course are as advertised: steep and bumpy. But impeccable grooming means beginners of all ages have plenty to choose from. At night, the secluded mountain village boasts a number of distractions, from restaurants and shops to an outdoor skating rink and a performing arts center.
